Depression of the Greatness

i read the news everyday and i am starting to have a sinking feeling that we are heading towards a economical depression that will me that "Great depression" look like a stroll in the park

with countries like America and Britten spending more money abroad (on many things but mainly the War on Terror) than on their own countries in combination of increases in Oil Prices and the potential destruction of crops from a newly discovered fungus (it is estimated that this funges could affect 80% of wheat varieties).

With the Oil up and in general debt at a high in combination with the decrease in food production and turmoil in the world , economic markets are fluctuating like the pulse of a fat kid running a marathon. I think there are hard times ahead for the world in general , some will be more affected than others but no one will be left out.

with the increasing tensions between the West and China and the West and the Middle East a depression could lead to the Imfamous trilogy finaly being played out , what trilogy? World War 3.

Einstien once said "I do not know how World War 3 will be fought but i do know that World War 4 will be fought with sticks and stones"

This is a frightening thought , it has been 60 odd years since the last WAR , and if history is to be believed it is time for another war of this magnitude.

all pointers in my opinion point to a war of this magnitude in the next 10 years unless something is done.

why cant the "Leaders of the Free World" listen to the philosophers of the past and take head of their words?

"Peace can neven be achieved through war, it can only be acieved through understanding" yet another Einstien qoute but very apt. In this world there is very little will to understand and more will to forcebly change things , this can only lead to our destruction.

Ponder this my fellow bloggers , surfers and lost souls.

The pre curser to World War 2 was the Great Depressions , at this rate we will hit another depression of that magnitude... but will the world survive this one?

Computer games are evil

hahahahaha oh yea believe it.... i am gonna have a ramble on this one , possibly a loooong one.

Computer games are designed for 1 thing and that is entertainment. How is a computer game any different from playing oh i dont know , cops 'n robbers?

Computer game: First Person Shooter - The point of these games is to run around and kill the "bad guys"
Cops 'n Robbers: The point of this game is to erm...well run around and kill the "bad guys"

how are these 2 activities so disimilar to each other and how is one bad and the other good?

but cnr (cops 'n robbers) can be played with friends.... well so can computer games... in fact you could play the game with millions of other people from all over the globe potentially increasing your knowledge of the people from those countries and their culture.
-- CNR: 0 - PC Games :1

but you actually have to go outside to play cnr. well thats fantastic. outside who would have thought of that , skin cancer , pedophiles , drunks , litter and much more await you in this "outside"
--CNR:0 - PC Games:2

you get exercise with CNR. this one is actually a good point one of the very few good points though. i am not a health nut or a exersize-a-holic. but i am able to walk to where i need if needed. people in general need a little more excersize. although with the advent of the Nintendo WII this is starting to change in favour of the ole computer game. i know i know , its not the same but its better than nothing. we shall see how this developes
--CNR:1 - PC Games:2

but but but... computer games make kids do bad things... well thats interesting computer games made them do it? is that the modern way of saying , the devil made me do it... my cat made me do it... anyways computer games dont make anyone do anything , they are a medium for entertainment , a pass the time or to escape from your disfinctional life.

escapism has been around for as long as people have had things they didnt want to deal with, telling stories around the fire after a hard days hunting. singing hyms after a tough day farming. readin a book after a bad day. these are all forms of escapism but they have not been blamed for making anyone do anything. so what is the differense? computer games are more real i hear you say , well i have news for you the tales of dragons and knights and grand adventures in the books i read are more real than any computer game and it is the same for everyone your imagination is unbound and runs for the far courners of belief at a moments notice given a chance. people have been using their imagination to escape for a long time... so its not the realism of computer games.

i will referense a farely wide known event , known in most of the world (mainly cause there was a movie). The shootings at Columbine High School. there were 2 things i heard which made me laugh:
1) they played violent video games (in this case Counter Strike)
2) they listened to violent music (Marilyn Manson)

i play violent video games and listen to violent music and i have yet to go on a killing spree

so what is the differense?

these 2 teenagers had a terrible time at school ect ect... alot of teens have that , its all a part of being a teen.

however the way they delt with it wasnt a normal response , why? maybe they were not shown how to deal with their problems and that no one noticed that these 2 were not dealing with their problems , surely thats the parents fault not a computer game or some singers fault. easier to blame someone else i suppose.

in the end computer games are a tool nothing else. They are neither good or bad they just are. If you told someone to fly a plane , someone who had no qualification to do so... and they crashed the plane, whos fault is it? the person who let them fly, not the plains fault. so why then are computer games blamed for anything?

Would Plato had been a blogger?

according to http://dictionary.reference.com

a blog is :
an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on

and philosophy is:
  1. Love and pursuit of wisdom by intellectual means and moral self-discipline.
  2. Investigation of the nature, causes, or principles of reality, knowledge, or values, based on logical reasoning rather than empirical methods.
  3. A system of thought based on or involving such inquiry: the philosophy of Hume.
  4. The critical analysis of fundamental assumptions or beliefs.
  5. The disciplines presented in university curriculums of science and the liberal arts, except medicine, law, and theology.
  6. The discipline comprising logic, ethics, aesthetics, metaphysics, and epistemology.
  7. A set of ideas or beliefs relating to a particular field or activity; an underlying theory: an original philosophy of advertising.
  8. A system of values by which one lives: has an unusual philosophy of life.

By this virtue i think Plato would indeed have been a blogger. The ability to express ones thoughts and views on any subject and have it constructivly commented on by many people who may or may not agree. This ability to publish your inner thoughts i think would have interested Plato and others like him.

You can only truely understand your beliefs and values when questioned about them.

If Plato was a blogger just imagine the work he could have achieved in his life time. Able to place a theory out there and instantly get questions about it , refining the theory and reposting. This would have sped up the proccess to the Nth degree.

change is as good as a holiday

i have fiddled witht he blog settings a little , everyone should be able to post comments now

when life is lived in make believe what is real?

With the advent of the internet the world has changed. News spreads at lightning speed and you are about to chat to people you wouldnt be able to without it. case in point i "met" a nice dude from canada , we have good chats ,and i live in South Africa. If it were not for the internet this would not be possible.

but like most of life there are pros and cons to this internets thing. pros well i am sure everyone reading this can come up with a staggering list of pros.  cons however are another story.

i am going to be focusing on one particular thing , internet chat be it email or im.

When chatting with someone on the internet you have a choice. You can allow the chat to beem directly to the centre of your soul and connect with someone on a pure  intelectual level, like 2 sentient beings floating through the cosmos no bodies just minds or you could make stuff up. due to the fact the you cannot see each other you can create a reality of your own where you can be king, ruler and lord of all you see.

i personally am not one to make things up , i am who i am take it or leave it. here in this web of the world i am the same as i am in the "real" world , although reality is just what you make of it.

why do people feel the need to decieve other people , is it fear of rejection that spurs them on to create their spectacular lies or something more sinister. I do not know. i do know that here you can meet people who like you for you.

in the end reality is what you make of it , be it in here , or out there

does a picture make that much of a difference?

All dating sites say the same thing , add a photo and you will be more "markatable" but is this actually true?

When you are staring at a blank picture slot of a potential encounter all is possible this person could have every thing you are looking for, every tiny detail that will turn you on and non of the things that turn you off. The moment that person adds his or her picture , its out there for the world to review and you can see that just by looks that they have something that you do not like and instantly the oputunity is lost for the person who added the picture where before people where willing to take the risk , but no longer.

i think the driving force of this is the same as the driving force of humanity , hope. It is so crucial to our survival that most people dont even register it.
Why do we get of bed in the morning , cause we hope it will be better than yesterday.
Why do we continue to search for relationships if hurt badly in the previous one? hope that it will be better

and why are we more willing to extend out a hand to a faceless person? the hope that they are everything we desire...

story of my life

well its been a year since i blogged , not a good thing , nise little outlet for random thoughts.

A lot has happened in the last year i wont bore you with the details but here is a summery:

  • Was in a car accident (not too bad but messed up my shoulder)
  • Met a girl (ahhh sweet) , had a little oops she fell pregnant (oops)
  • Bought a house moved in with said woman (hmm)
  • she miscarried ( not a fun time)
  • she left me ( still not a fun time)
  • rebuilt my life ( yay for me)
  • and am back here (yay for you)
i should be bloggin again but we shall see what happens

Is euthanasia fundamental to a civilised society?

In Society Most people want to die in their sleep , no pain , no fuss. In reality this isnt the case when you are suffering from a terminal illness and in extreme pain with no hope to live why not be able to have the option to end it on your own terms. Religion would say thats its a sin or suicide but surely if your death is imminant and every up until that point is pure hell with pain would it sill be a sin to want to stop the suffering. Not only to end the suffering of the person envolved but also their loved ones. Would you want your wife\husband\children to stand around and watch you dying slowly, i dont think you would. Life is precious but there comes a point when there is no more hope and only suffering which in the end no one wants we currently have methods to achieve a painless death. If society frowns upon cruelty and intolerance why is this such a big deal. Surely leaving someone to die in pain is an act of cruelty and being intolerant to people who want to end the pain is a sign of well intolerance.

Can money buy happiness?

This is an interesting question. To the human condition most people i would emagine most poeple would say how can you be happy without money. Well in my humble opinion money cant buy happines. It is a frame of mind. You do not need money to be happy with yourself or happy with the way you look or what you know. If you cant be happy with whats in your head no matter how much money you have you will not be happy. If money buys happiness then how can the poor be as happy as the rich and in most cases they are more happy than the rich. Money will only ever give you a base to be happy its a choice of each individual. But by the same virtue if you are starving becuase you cant buy food i doubt you will be a happy person. I think the only part money plays in being happy is supplying the basic needs os every human ie. Some place to stay , food ect ect. Once your basic needs to live have been fulfilled it is entirely up to you to be happy.

an experiment

well i had a thought the other day.

A global story. Sort of a modification of a game we used to play in english class.

Where someone would story start a story and the next person would continue ect ect.

But this time i was thinking to try do it on a global scale.Using this blog as a medium for it, all you have to do is add your part of the story to the comment of this post.

and here we go:

It was a dark stormy night. For some reason that couldnt be explained there was a sense of ill about the town. Most people in the town were asleep expect Jack. Jack was sitting in his room in the dark. The only light to be seem was comming from the computer screen in which all of his attention was dedicated.

Lack of New Ideas in Movies

One of the things that is currently bugging me about all the new movies that are being released is that there are very few new concepts for movies. Movies these days seem to be based of books, comics or tv shows. Dont get me wrong some of these movies are completely awesome but they lack a something new , something cleaned. The recycling of these idead becomes boring, i want something new , something exiting , something that isnt over advertised. Something that is just decent. Maybe that is too much to ask for the commercialisation of movies lead to movies that get millions spent on them and they end up being rubbish. Is a new story line too much to ask for. I guess so

Reality TV

Well , what is up with reality TV.

What is the draw of it. Possibly to see how other people suck more than us , giving us a minor feeling of superiority. While watching them , you find yourself sitting thinking I can do it better , i am better than them.

I personally think the basic draw of them is playing to the basic human condition of I am better than you , no matter who the "you is".

Interestingly enough , knowing this i still watch some of them. Why though, i find the basic human condition that run on them fascinating.

Humans can be very interesting creatures when put under pressure

anyways thats my 2 cents.
